How to track who & when NWBC is used?

$

In our environment, our users could used either SAPGUI or Portal or NWBC . Was wondering whether anybody know there's way by which I could track  NWBC usage? My interest is more on user id who launch the NWBC, and when it was launched. And as an extra, track the NWBC version that they used and which system (i.e. ERP, SCM, BI etc) they used NWBC to logon to.

SSO with NWBC for HTML

Dear All,

This is the first time i ever have an opportunity to work on NWBC. My company wants to implement SSO using NWBC for HTML and not interested in using any AS JAVA components or SAP Netweaver SSO product.

Requirement/Background:

We are going live with HR/PAYROLL and ESS/MSS. The requirement is that users  will use NWBC for HTML to login into backend system(ECC 6.0 EHP5 on Windows /SQL 2008)  and print their payslip and do all allowed activities in ESS/MSS functionality.

( I realised from EHP5 we do not require Portal to implement ESS/MSS)

AIM:

Company wants to implement single sign on using NWBC for HTML to achieve the above requirement. At the moment users have to change their password every 30 days in production system.Since most of the users logs in only once in a month to print their payslips ,there is always a chance for them  to forget their password or system will prompt to change the password due to 30  day password change restriction, therefore we will get thousands of calls related to password reset every month end. To avoid this we want to implement SSO.

Note: If we can achieve SSO then we can disable or make changes to the password expiry parameter

My Thoughts:

Based on the requirement all i can think of is to authenticate the users at desktop level (AD) and then by clicking on the NWBC link they should be able to login into the backend system automatically, based on the roles assigned to them , they will be able to perform their activities. We can apply the password restrictions at AD level and users only have to remember one password.

I would really appreciate if any one can guide me through in achieving this. We are open for any suggestions.

Thank You

Raj

Using Standard SAP Menus for Project Team

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can provide a bit of advice with respect to providing NWBC menus to project team members. For example if you have a set of teams on your project one may cover Finance, another HR and another Procurement and you want to give them access to the ERP system via NWBC. One thing I thought to do as a starting point was create a role for each group and create the menu for that role by copying the standard SAP menu. For Finance I copied the "Accounting" node from the standard SAP Menu. What I found however was that the standard SAP Menu contained over 12,000 nodes and 15 levels:

10-03-2014 9-06-28 AM.png

10-03-2014 9-06-01 AM.png

On first log on NWBC is very slow as it creates the menu structure for the user - some times it even timed out (esp. for the Logistics role that had over 30,000 nodes).

I suppose one way would be to create a lean version of these roles with only the required content, but that I think will require a lot of work to work out what is required and what isn't.

Does anyone have any bright ideas? Most of the standard SAP roles I come across are targeted at business users (e.g. Accounts Payable Clerk or Finance Manager) not really targeted at someone who is configuring the system.

The other solution I suppose is to somehow speed NWBC up a bit - I wonder if there is a way to do that?

Thanks in advance,
Simon

Hi,

I know that the NWBC can be accessed through the t-code NWBC. But I want to access the NWBC HTML through the URL. I have tried accessing through the URL that I got by using the NWBC t-code. But it doesn't seems to be working. It works only when I am logged into to the ECC session, if not it's throwing me the error. Can you please let me know what am I missing here?

Thanks,

NWBC 4.3, Easy Access Favorites & Web Entry

I was exploring the NWBC 4.3 (with 7.31 NW Backend) "Easy Access Favorites" features, and was little surprise that it does NOT seem to like favorite based on Web Entry (e.g. google.com).  I could launchthe favorite via the SAPGUI; but when I click on the Web favorite via NWBC, it will run forever.

Is anybody else experiencing similar issue?

Not able to pull data in side panel in NWBC 4.0

Hi Experts,

We have manage to locate standard charts and roles provided by SAP for enabling this. We have also got transactions in the main chart area and provided authorization for the standard charts through PFCG to the side panels.

Now where we are stuck is that based on the data selected in the mail panel, the chart in the side panel should be displayed. This is not happening as we are unable to figure out how to transfer data (through tagging I believe) from the main to side panel and display the right reports. Also, if we need to do something additional like activate data sources is not clear.

Any inputs on this?

URL link to open transaction in NWBC Desktop client

Hi!

I am trying to create an URL link to open a transaction in a role that I am using.

The webpage is shown in a web-chip as a part of FPM page inthe NWBC desktop client.

I have tried this type of concept: https://serverXX:8000/sap/bc/nwbc/~canvas/roleEntry/MyROLE:56/

The problem is that this opens the transaction in the HTML version of NWBC (inside NWBC desktop client).

However, I would do not want to use the HTML based version of the transaction. I want to use nativ abap transaction inside NWBC Desktop client.

I am able to open the transaction with a link from a webbrowser with this type of link:

sap-nwbc://https://serverXX:8000/sap/bc/nwbc/~canvas/roleEntry/MyROLE:56/

This link does not open at all from within NWBC....

How do I achieve opening a transaction via URL from inside the NWBC Desktop client?

SAP User Interface Design Guidelines and NWBC

$

I came across this very nice UI Guidelines for Business Suite document and noticed that on page 28 it states:

The NWBC is delivered with the Index Page (p. 31) as first page that is opened. This can

easily be changed by the administrator or the end user: This page can be unpinned and

other pages (e.g. Information Hub Pages (ABAP Page Builder) (p. 47), Landing Pages

(HTML5) (p. 39) etc.) can be pinned to fit the needs of the end user. When starting the

NBWC the next time these pinned tabs will be opened.

My understanding is that only end users can remove the index page and replace it with pinned tabs. I am not aware of how administrators can control this. Can anyone shed some light on this?

NWBC Desktop 4.0 Performance questions

Is NWBC for Desktop as fast as regular SAPGUI? Since it employs role-based menus, I understand it is a bit slower starting up because it has to get all the roles, but once NWBC is up and running, should it be just as fast as SAPGUI? I was thinking it should be as fast as SAPGUI because it uses "embedded SAPGUI".

What are some reasons that NWBC for Desktop be slower than SAPGUI?

Does NWBC 4.0 run faster with CORBU theming turned on and slower when CORBU is turned off?

Thank you in advance,

Rick

Custom Theme or Background Colour for System

$

Recently I have been asked by two people about the ability to change the colour of the SAPGUI that runs inside the NWBC (desktop). Both these people are SAP functional consultants who are used to using the SAPGUI where they have the ability to set a background colour for a system as explained here:

http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=257361856

pink.png

They do this so that they can easily visually distinguish between Development, Test and Production systems - and not accidentally make a change in the wrong system.

Personally I find the colour change a bit ugly, but I understand the reason why they want it. Has anyone got any suggestions how to achieve something similar using NWBC 4.0? By default I think NWBC 4.0 uses the Corbu theme and I don't see the same sort of end user personalization to change colours.

Thanks in advance,
Simon

Hi All,

This could be a easy question, but I have a couple of days looking into this... From where is determined the system ID in NWBC... I'm trying to log on into a TM system and for any reason the system ID is not correct so I could not login... Any idea where I can change that...?

NWBC on Windows XP

I was wondering if anyone could  provide some information regarding NWBC support on Windows XP. Since Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of April 8th 2014 (only a few weeks away) - what does that mean for NWBC support on Windows XP? I have seen in other areas (e.g. SAPGUI) that SAP only supports their products on a given operating system for as long as the vendor of that OS supports it. If you look at SAP Note 66971 it states that after April 8th SAPGUI on Windows XP enters "Post Mortem QA" - whatever that means (sounds terrible!). That level of support continues until 31st December 2014. Is there a similar statement for NWBC?

Seems like I have more questions than answers today (one of those days!).
